A Fine 18th Century Mahogany Bell Top Bracket Clock
£5,950 $7,865 €6,763
An 18th century mahogany and ormolu mounted bell top bracket clock. The 8-day movement with finely engraved back plate and the full brass dial signed Pennington, Drury Lane
Circa 1785
The Pennington family of clock makers have some interesting members and this one was invited to look at the marine timekeeper by Mudge for the government and was one of the partners in Barraud''s abortive attempt to mass produce chronmeters to Mudges pattern.
Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.
